SMSA spokesperson, Mike Bowen, was invited to speak at the National Academies of Sciences' Medical Product Shortages during Disasters: Opportunities to Predict, Prevent, and Respond workshop on September 5 and 6, 2018. The workshop focused on "the impact that shortages of commonly used medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals can have on health care delivery and emergency response" and "explored opportunities to improve and build upon the current evidence base on the effects of medical product shortages, and subsequent product inventory conservation efforts on patient health and to predict, prevent, and respond to such future shortages in the United States."
